TSSA staff and activists wear red for Show Racism the Red Card

22nd October 2021 is Wear it Red Day, a day of fundraising and support for the charity Show Racism the Red Card. 

Last summer demonstrated just how far we still have to come in the fight against racism. Racism ruins lives and it takes lives, it must not go unchallenged.  

Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism charity which delivers educational workshops to children and young adults to help tackle racism, in schools, workplaces, and at events held in football stadiums. 

It was founded in 1996 thanks to Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. One night at a petrol station some lads were shouting racial abuse at him. Then one recognised Shaka as the Newcastle goalkeeper and asked him for his autograph. This experience inspired Shaka to use his status as a professional footballer to combat racism.

Across the UK, SRtRC now provides educational sessions to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

This year TSSA staff, EC officers and members of E-mix, our self-organised group for Black and Minority Ethnic members united to show our support for Show Racism the Red Card by wearing it red.
